V + yíxià is one of the most useful patterns in everyday Mandarin. It can show that an action is brief, casual, or simply an attempt. In requests and instructions, it also softens the tone so the sentence sounds less direct and more polite. This lesson explains the usual word order, natural translations, and a real-life dialogue, followed by interactive practice.

Do not translate yíxià literally every time. In kàn yíxià yīshēng, the natural English is simply see a doctor; yíxià mainly changes the tone and how the action feels.
翻譯時不必每次都直譯成「一下子」或英文 a little。像「看一下醫生」最自然的英文是 see a doctor,西文是 ir a ver a un médico;「一下」主要表達的是語氣和動作感。
Fānyì shí búbì měi cì dōu zhíyì chéng “yíxiàzi” huò Yīngwén a little. Xiàng “kàn yíxià yīshēng” zuì zìrán de Yīngwén shì see a doctor, Xīwén shì ir a ver a un médico; “yíxià” zhǔyào biǎodá de shì yǔqì hé dòngzuò gǎn.
